Punjab Vigilance Bureau Nabs Bribing Motor Vehicle Inspector

Chandigarh December 12, 2024 – The Punjab Vigilance Bureau is actively conducting a drive against corruption in the state. On Thursday, they arrested Gurmeet Singh, Motor Vehicle Inspector (MVI) Patiala. Anil, a private person from Patiala, and his associate were arrested red-handed while accepting a bribe of Rs. 14,000.

VB Spokesperson Confirms Arrest of Accused in Bribery Case

An official spokesperson of the VB disclosed this information today. The spokesperson said that they have arrested the above-mentioned accused.This arrest is based on a complaint lodged by Dinesh Kumar. He is a resident of Patiala city and works as a private document writer in District Administrative Complex, Patiala.

He further added that the complainant has approached the VB. The complainant alleged that the above said accused MVI has been demanding a bribe through his private agent Anil. This bribery was for passing the fitness of vehicles and clearing his driving license test.

They were accepting a bribe of Rs. 14,000

The spokesperson informed there was a preliminary inquiry into this complaint. After this, the VB team laid a trap. During the trap, Gurmeet Singh, MVI, and his private agent Anil were caught accepting a bribe of Rs. 14,000 from the complainant in the presence of two official witnesses. The Vigilance Bureau recovered the bribe money. Both accused were booked under the Prevention of Corruption Act at VB police station Patiala range.Further investigation into this case was under progress, he said.
